The Assam Police is on full alert after fresh tension was reported along the inter-state border with Mizoram. The escalation was reported at Dholai’s Khulichara in Cachar district.

The fresh dispute erupted after a group of around 15 unidentified persons along with Mizoram police personnel objected to the construction of a road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana by Assam in Khulichara area.

As per eye witnesses, those from the Mizoram side were armed with guns, bows and arrows. Fearing further escalation, the construction workers immediately left the site.

Assam Police said a group of armed men from the Mizoram side tried to stop construction workers who were building the road in Khulichara village along the inter-state border in the Dholai subdivision of southern Assam’s Cachar district.

Khulichara is about 12 km from Lailapur, where six personnel of Assam police were killed and over 45 injured in a violent border clash on July 6.

Meanwhile, after getting information about the incident, Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur and DIG Southern Range Debojyoti Mukherjee rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

SP Ramandeep Kaur informed that talks are on at the higher level to resolve the issue.

Both the state’s police forces have set up camps in the area. Central forces are also deployed in the area to avoid any conflict between the neighbouring states.
