The Assam government in a cabinet decision on Thursday appointed Home Guard Borsing Bey as a Constable in Assam Police. Bey had refused a huge bribe from drug dealers and helped recover drugs valued at Rs 12 crore in Karbi Anglong.
Bey recovered the drugs from a Guwahati-bound night super bus bearing registration number MN06B-0511 at a check gate under Dilai Police Station.
Acknowledging the heroic deed of Borsing Bey, whose selfless act led to the recovery of crystal meth worth Rs 12 crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Bey will be appointed as a constable in Assam Police.
“#ASSAMCABINET UPDATE – Thursday, June 24, 2021 Glad to share that in today’s Cabinet Meeting, we have decided that Home Guard Borsing Bey will be appointed as Constable in @assampolice as a reward for the integrity he has displayed by refusing bribe,” CM Sarma tweeted.

His action was praised by everyone and Borsing Bey became a household name for his act.
Bey’s selfless act was lauded by both common citizens and bureaucrats. Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said Bey was offered a huge bribe by the accused persons in return for letting them go free but he refused the offer.
Taking to Twitter, DGP Mahanta wrote, “The man Assam can’t stop talking about, The toast of town… Home Guard Shri Borsing Bey was in Police Head Quarters today! He was felicitated and handed over a check of Rs. 1,00,000 as a recognition for his honest and selfless act that needs no explanation today!”

The Assam Police awarded him with a cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh for his honest and selfless act.
