Arunachal man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for raping minor girl

A special court in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district designated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years of imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

The 26-year-old accused has been identified as Janjam Wangsu.

As per reports, the incident took place on December 6 last year, when the culprit had come to the victim’s house in Nyausa village of Longding district and kidnapped her taking advantage of the absence of her parents. He then took the victim near the National Highway of Bosco Colony where he raped her.

The victim suffered trauma and depression for a couple of months after the incident. Later she confided to her parents over what had happened and then finally a case was registered on March 15 this year.

During the trial, it was also found out that the victim had suffered from prolonged trauma and ailment after the rape for which she had to take medical treatment at Dibrugarh and counseling at a Prayer Centre in Margherita.

Meanwhile, the case has been forwarded to the District Legal Service Authority in Longding for providing adequate compensation to the victim under Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011, for her rehabilitation.
