From the remote villages of Manipur, comes a tale of hope and perseverance in the face of adversity.

In the absence of any govt assistance, locals of the remote rural areas of Tamei Sub Division in the state’s Tamenglong district took it upon themselves to repair the vital Tamei – Dikhuiram road which connects many far-flung villages both in Manipur and Nagaland.

A team of 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sect AR/ IGAR (EAST) took the initiative of repairing the link road, which connects as many as 35 villages in hinterland.

Inspired by the noble initiative, locals from Dikhuiram village also pledged to toil in the sunlight, leaving behind their farm work and joined hands with Assam Rifles to get the road repaired.

Work started on 12 October last year and against all odds, within 85 days repair work of 22 km stretch of the road was completed on 4th January. The completion of the repair work also came as a New Year Gift for the villagers as they now have access to better education, health, employment, government developmental schemes and markets for self-reliance opportunities.

The road was inaugurated and dedicated to the locals of the area on Tuesday by IGAR (EAST) in presence of huge crowd from nearby areas. Locals sang songs and performed traditional dances to express happiness over what they had achieved together with security forces in the area. These achievers were felicitated by Assam Rifles, thus further strengthening the bond of friendship between them.

The locals along with Assam Rifles have written a new story of self-reliance, proving once again that when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
