Manipur: Former Chandel ADC chief, 6 others acquitted in multi-crore drug seizure case

A special court on Thursday acquitted the former Chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Chandel, Lhukhosei Zou along with 6 others who were arrested in connection with the multi-crore drug
A special court on Thursday acquitted the former Chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Chandel, Lhukhosei Zou along with 6 others who were arrested in connection with the multi-crore drug haul case of 2018.
The court in its order directed the jail authority to release Lhukhosei Zou immediately. However, the court convicted two others persons involved in the case – Thangminlun Zou and Tun Khan Mung Zou have been convicted under the NDPS Act, 1985.
It may be mentioned that on June 20, 2018, a team of NAB raided and seized drugs worth Rs 27 crore. Several people were arrested, including former BJP politician and Chairman of ADC Lhukhoisei Zou.
Following the court’s verdict, Congress MLA and MPCC General Secretary, K Meghachandra reacting sharply said that Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s ‘War on Drugs’ campaign is meaningless.
The accused persons were acquitted from the case as the prosecution failed to prove any charge levelled against them.
