Counting of votes for the 40-member Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections is underway.

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), led by former BTC chief Hagrama Mahilary has won 6 seats and is leading in 17 seats on Saturday, as per the latest trends.

The BPF surged ahead in the Bodo heartland registering early wins. B Saoraigwra and Paniram Brahma won the Chirang and Kajalgaon seats respectively.

  • BPF’s Moon Moon Brahma won Parbatjora constituency by 7,776 votes.
  • BPF’s James Basumatary won the Nichima seat with a margin of 2,781 votes.
  • BPF’s Dhananjay Basumatary in Manas Serfang constituency won by 1,240 votes.

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), led by Pramod Boro won 2 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 1 seat.

The BJP has managed to lead in 10 seats, surpassing UPPL. Congress and others are at 1 seat each.

BPF president Hagrama Mahilary, who was earlier trailing behind in both Debargaon and Kachugaon seats, is leading now in both the seats.

The counting of votes began at 8 am on Saturday in 10 counting centres across four BTR districts — Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri.

The voting began on December 7 in the Udalguri and Baksa districts of Bodoland Territorial Region and concluded its final phase on December 10 in Kokrajhar and Chirang.
