After the COVID-19 pandemic brought the tourism industry in Meghalaya to a grinding halt, the state government has decided to reopen for tourists starting from December 21, 2020.
“#Meghalaya reopens its #Tourism from 21st December, 2020. While you’re planning your next trip, here’s what awaits you in the #LandOfClouds. #CheckInToNature,” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted on Tuesday.

In another tweet, Sangma wrote, “We are reopening Tourism in Meghalaya for tourists from outside the State from 21st Dec, 2020. To ensure the safety of everyone, registration through the @meghtourism app is made mandatory & SOPs are put in place.”
CM Sangma added that it would be mandatory for the tourists to download the Meghalaya Tourism app and follow SOPs put in place by the government.
As per a notification by the Meghalaya Tourism Department, all tourists would need to register on the tourism app (available on both Google Play Store and Apple Store, and the Meghalaya tourism website) and generate an E-Invite.
The E-invite needs to be displayed by the tourists at entry points, along with an original copy of a COVID-19 negative RT-PCR/TruNat/CBNAAT report, tested within 72 hours of their arrival at entry point.
Earlier in September, the government had announced the reopening of Wards Lake, Elephant Falls and Lum Nehru Park for local tourists only.
