In a major boost to the BJP ahead of the by-elections to two assembly seats in Nagaland, veteran congress leaders and party workers of Kiphire district joined the BJP fold on Friday.
BJP President and Minister Temjen Imna Along told Northeast Live that Congress workers resigning and joining BJP is going to make a difference and strengthen the party more.
“It will absolutely strengthen the party because they are not just one or two of them but they are veterans of the congress party and leaders of this area of Kiphire and Pungro area so it will make a lot of difference,” said Along.
Along said the reason for the Congress workers joining the BJP was because the party workers have lost faith in the leadership of the Congress.
“BJP is working hard and we are at present neck to neck and I am sure we will be able to deliver well,” he added.
Meanwhile, BJP National Spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon said that Congress workers joining BJP is only the beginning and pointed out that everyone is rooting for a new India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kikon said that the Congress workers joining BJP, just on the eve of the polls has given a huge push to the prospect of the BJP candidate and it is a testimony to the fact that everybody in this constituency believes in the leadership of BJP and PDA govt in the state.
“The move by the Congress will strengthen the already strong BJP party candidate in Kiphire”, he added.
