Assam doctor tests positive for COVID-19

A doctor engaged in treating COVID-19 patients, who was in-charge of Singimari Model Hospital in Kamrup district of Assam has tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

Dr Deepak Chandra Das, the doctor from Sualkuchi was regularly visiting Singimari Model Hospital as the in-charge of the hospital which has been functioning as a dedicated COVID-19 treatment facility.

Reportedly, he was not directly involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The doctor is currently under treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Meanwhile, Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that contact tracing related to Dr Deepak Das has started as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

It may be mentioned that as many as 15 frontline workers including doctors, lab technicians and nurses have tested positive in the state so far.
