A 76-year-old American tourist was tested positive for Coronavirus disease in Bhutan. The tourist was in Assam from 21st February to 1st March. This news has created panic among many in Assam.
The American tourist along with his partner boarded MV Mahabaahu and went for a seven-day cruise that took them to Majuli as well as Kaziranga National Park on way to Guwahati.
The MV Mahabaahu has been sailing since last Sunday with 22 passengers from different countries and 35 crew members on board.
The Guwahati to Jorhat upstream cruise ship covers seven nights and eight days, the ship includes destinations like Kamakhya Temple, Umananda, Kaziranga National Park, a tea-estate, a tribal village and Majuli.
A total of 22 international tourists and 29 crew members are kept in isolation.
A team has been formed by the Assam Government for screening and treating the suspected Coronavirus patients.
“Thermal scanning will be conducted in the cruise including blood tests and other required tests and the samples will be sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for examination,” said a medical officer of Jorhat Medical college.
The couple stayed at hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati before leaving for Bhutan from Guwahati on 2nd March. Among the ten other passengers on board the Druk Air flight, eight are Indian nationals.
“At the Paro International Airport, the patient’s health declaration form was assessed. He had indicated “negative” against all conditions. He did not have a sign of fever,” said an official statement by the PMO Bhutan.
The 76-year-old tourist was tested positive after being kept under observation at a clinic designated for COVID-19 patients. It is unclear where the US citizen contracted the illness, but he is said to have traveled to Mumbai, Kolkata and Assam before visiting Bhutan.
As per reports the couple took an Indigo airlines flight to reach Jorhat and stayed at the Thengal Manor, Jorhat. On 24th February they traveled to Sivasagar and visited Kaziranga on 28th February.
