With just over a day left for electing the Speaker for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, ruling party National Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) and opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF), filed their nomination papers for the election of Speaker of the Nagaland Assembly, scheduled to be held on February 7.
Ruling NDPP has fielded Sharingain Longkumer incumbent Deputy Speaker and Speaker-in-charge, while the NPF has nominated former Speaker and MLA, Dr Imtiwapang Aier.
Sharingain Longkumer, a first time NDPP legislator from Aonglenden Constituency was elected during the by-election held in 2019 following the demise of NDPP legislator, Imtikumzuk Longkumer.
While, Dr Imtiwapang, NPF MLA from Impur constituency under Mokokchung district was first elected in 2013 as Congress candidate.
The election comes in following the sudden demise of Speaker Vikho-o-Yhoshü on December 30 last year. The 5th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly will resume business from February 7 to February 15.
