Mobile internet services was restored across Assam at 9 am on Friday morning. Internet services were suspended for a period of nine days owing to violent protests against the amended Citizenship Act.

The Gauhati High Court had eariler ordered the state government to restore mobile net services by 5 pm of Thursday, but Assam Finance Minister waited for a few more hours to make sure the situation was completely within control before resumption of internet services.

On Thursday evening, a division bench of Justices Manojit Bhuyan and Saumitra Saikia gave the direction after hearing four PILs filed by journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, advocates Bonoshri Gogoi, Randeep Sharma and Debakanta Doley.

Broadband services were resumed in the state on December 17. The Assam Police has cautioned people to use the internet, especially the social media carefully.
