The Tripura Congress is clearly a divided house, while 10 Congress leaders have resigned from the party following the exit of Pradyot Deb Barman, others led by senior Congress leader Subal Bhowmik has come out all guns blazing against Pradyot Deb Barman and file a defamation suit against him.

Pradyut had allegedly called the senior Congress leaderships as a bunch of liars and criminals soon after resigning from the party.

Senior Congress leader Subal Bhowmik said that the party will file a case against Deb Barman for defaming the party and raising a number of false allegations against a section of senior party leaders.

Bhowmik also alleged that Deb Barman’s plans to quit the Congress were evident as he had already started talks with other indigenous parties for floating a new regional party of his own.

Bhowmik also claimed that the Congress vote share which had risen from 1.7 percent to 28 percent in Tripura, had a drop in the vote share in the three-tier panchayat elections due to the indiscipline within the party and individual harsh treatment by Deb Barman to party workers.

Deb Barman had resigned citing differences with party high command. He has rushed to New Delhi and is likely to meet top Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has close family ties with the Tripura royal family.

Speculations are rife over Pradyot Deb Barman’s Delhi visit, although the Tripura royal has told some of his close associates that he will not reverse his decision of resigning.
