Former Tengnoupal Deputy Commissioner Akoijam Tombikanta has been arrested by Police on charges of misappropriation of funds in Manipur.

According to sources, the retired bureaucrat was arrested by Imphal West Police on Monday after a case was registered at Tengnoupal Police Station following specific instruction from the central home ministry.

Tombikanta has been charged with misappropriation of funds meant for 4-lane road expansion and other construction activities from Pallel to Moreh.

The misappropriation charges include irregularities in the 1st and 2nd phases of land compensation for villagers of many villages from Thamnapokpi to Chahmol village of Tengnoupal district.
