Prime Minister Narendra Modi has openly backed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill hoping that it would soon be passed in Parliament and it is linked with emotions and people’s lives.

The Prime Minister made the statement in Southern Assam’s Silchar town where he was addressing a massive election rally on Friday.

Addressing the rally which is part of 100 such rallies planned by the BJP in the next 70 days in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, Modi said his government is moving ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which is not for the benefit of anyone but a corrective step against the injustice and wrong doings of the past.

The Prime Minister added that people should not suffer for the mistakes of partition. Addressing a massive gathering Narendra Modi assured that no no genuine Indian citizen would be left out of the National Register of Citizens of India (NRC).

The Prime Minister’s statement comes at a time when there is a massive opposition to the bill in Assam and across the region.

It may be mentioned, the Joint Parliamentary Committee approved the draft Bill clearing its placement and possible passage in Parliament just a day ahead of the PM’s arrival in Silchar.

Meanwhile, the Prime minister also added that the Centre has decided to implement the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord which was on hold for the past 30-35 years. The Prime Minister said Clause 6 assured protection of the identity and culture of Assamese people.
