Tripura CM Lays Foundation for Rs 40.58 Cr Transport Projects, Inaugurates Parking Complex in Khowai

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for five major transport projects and inaugurated an Integrated Parking Complex at Puran Bazar in Khowai district.

The total investment in these projects stands at Rs 40.58 crore, marking a significant push towards infrastructure development in Tripura.

The foundation stones were laid for the Jirania Motor Stand, Jolaibari Motor Stand, Melaghar Motor Stand, District Transport Office in Teliamura (Khowai district), and District Transport Office in Shantirbazar (South Tripura). Additionally, the Integrated Parking Complex at Puran Bazar, Khowai, was inaugurated virtually by the Chief Minister.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister termed these initiatives as a “new milestone” for the Transport Department and the state’s development.

He emphasized that the infrastructure projects would greatly benefit vehicle owners, drivers, and passengers across Tripura.

Highlighting the Act East Policy, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for accelerating development in the Northeast.

He stated that since 2014, the scale of progress in the region has been remarkable. Taking a swipe at past Communist rule, he remarked, “During their time, all we heard were slogans like ‘Zindabad’ and complaints about the Centre not providing funds. But today, we are witnessing real progress.”

CM Saha also praised the improved law and order situation in Tripura, citing 12 MoUs signed across the Northeast that have helped bring peace to the region. “Today, Tripura is free from extremism,” he said.

He also announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Taj Group is in the pipeline for establishing a heritage hotel in Tripura. This would be one of only 6 such hotels in India and is expected to boost tourism and generate local employment.
