In response to the escalating chaos in Manipur, CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh arrived in the troubled state after being directed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the situation on the ground.

Since yesterday, Manipur witnessed a massive wave of unrest as violence erupted in its capital, Imphal, following the tragic killings of three children and three women from Jiribam. Angry mobs have ransacked, vandalized, and set fire to residences of MLAs and ministers, as public outrage boiled over.

Among the homes targeted by the mob were those belonging to Sagolband MLA RK Imo Singh, who is also the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh; Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan (Konthoujam MLA); Power Minister Thongam Biswajit (Thongju MLA); PWD Minister K Govindas (Bishnupur MLA); Nishikant Sapam (Keishamthong MLA); Thangjam Arun Kumar (Wangkhei MLA); Sapam Kunjakeswar (Patsoi MLA); Khwairakpam Raghumani (Uripok MLA); Soraisham Kebi Devi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA); and Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband MLA). The private residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh was also attacked during the unrest.

At least 23 individuals have been arrested by state forces for their alleged involvement in the attacks, including arson and vandalism.

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in seven districts Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur, and Kangpokpi. Internet services have been suspended in the state until further notice, with authorities announcing a review tomorrow.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was scheduled to address election rallies in Nagpur and Vidarbha in Maharashtra today, has canceled his engagements to focus on the unfolding crisis in Manipur. He is expected to chair a crucial meeting on the situation.

The central government had recently dispatched 20 additional companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to Manipur taking the total number of companies to 218.
