Race for Gambegre By-polls in Meghalaya Begins: Candidates of NPP, BJP and Congress File Nominations

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 28, with the last date for withdrawal set for October 30.

The race for the Gambegre assembly constituency in Meghalaya has begun as candidates have completed their nomination filings.

Notable candidates–Mehtab Chandee from the National People’s Party (NPP), the wife of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma; State BJP Vice President Bernard Marak; and Congress candidate Jingjang M. Marak, all have submitted their papers at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tura today.

Yesterday, Trinamool Congress candidate Sadhiarani M. Sangma also filed her nomination. She is the wife of three-time Rangsakona MLA Zenith Sangma and currently serves as the only female Member of the District Council (MDC) from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

Independent candidates are expected to file their nominations before the last date on October 25.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 28, with the last date for withdrawal set for October 30.

The Gambegre seat is expected to witness a fierce contest among these prominent political figures.

The by-elections for the Gambegre assembly seat will be held on November 13 and counting of votes will take place on November 23.

This assembly seat fell vacant after its sitting MLA, Congress’ Saleng Sangma won the Lok Sabha poll and became the MP from Tura.
