Meghalaya: Man Kills Uncle Over Suspicion of Practicing Witchcraft on His Father

According to the police, Marak struck his uncle, Jengran R. Marak, on the head with a steel water pipe.
In a shocking incident, a young man from Dolbaoara village in Purakhasia of Meghalaya killed his uncle on suspicion of practicing witchcraft on his father. The son thought that this was making his father ill.
Police arrested the man identified as 23-year-old Ponibirth R. Marak. According to the police, Marak struck his uncle, Jengran R. Marak, on the head with a steel water pipe, leading to his immediate death.
The incident was reported to the police at 7:10 p.m. last night by the headman of Rohonpara along with two another villagers of the same village.
After being produced at the police outpost, Ponibirth was taken to Purakhasia Primary Health Center (PHC) for a medical examination under police escort and later placed in custody for further legal proceedings.
According to preliminary investigations by police, Ponibirth believed his father’s illness was caused by black magic performed by his uncle. The victim’s body was discovered behind his house.
