Cabbie, 3 others try to kidnap girl and her friend from Bengaluru in Guwahati, lands in police net

A sensational kidnapping bid was foiled in Guwahati by timely action and a daring rescue operation by the police.
According to reports, a girl who hails from Rangjuli in Goalpara, Assam had returned from Shillong with her friend from Bengaluru, and the duo booked a cab for Rangjuli from the Jalukbari flyover near Gauhati University.
The cabbie told the girl and her friend that if they share the cab with other passengers, it would be cheaper for them. The unsuspecting couple agreed to this. Soon 3 more people boarded the cab. After a while, instead of going towards Rangjuli, the driver started driving towards Baihata Chariali.
After moving towards Baihata Chariali, the three men asked the girl to call her family members for ransom.
The girl’s family was prompt enough and informed the police about the kidnapping. Baihata police traced the mobile location of the young couple to an interior road in Baihata Chariali.
Accordingly, a check post was laid, blocking the road. The kidnappers tried to run over the Officer-in-Charge of Baihata Police Station when signalled to stop, leading to a hot chase by the police.
Finally, the trio was arrested by the police, and the youth and girl were rescued.
The arrested individuals have are from Nalbari.
As per inputs, another accused, Manowar Ali, who was also apprehended, jumped into the Brahmaputra in North Guwahati.
The Officer-in-Charge reportedly sustained serious injuries during the rescue operation.
A case has been registered against the three men under various sections.
