Meghalaya police is going all out in its crusade against drug menace in capital Shillong and is zeroing it down on the kingpins of the drug cartel operating in the State capital.
Shillong has been witnessing an increase in the number of drug users, suppliers and a lot of arrests and seizures have also been made by the Anti Narcotic Task force (ANTF) of the state police.
The city police have also increased the number of its awareness programme and regular visits to educational institutions to teach the student community to stay away from drugs.
Letting their intentions clear, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of police Davis Marak said that the police are going all out to nab the key players and king pin involved in the dug racket in Shillong which he said is not just a transit route for drugs but also a destination.
Stating that Shillong is not just a transit route but also a destination, Marak said that as a destination there are some organised groups who are running the drug racket in the city.
The SP added that there are some militant groups hailing from the North East itself who are involved in drugs and arms trafficking to finance their groups.
Alarmed by the growing menace of drug, youth group of various localities including the Khasi Students Union (KSU) have also joined in the fight time and again and apprehended many users and suppliers.
