Police said that vehicles are being targeted in areas which are not under the surveillance of CCTV cameras.

There seems to be no end to violence in Meghalaya as the state continues to report incidents of petrol bomb attacks and vehicles being set on fire.

In a fresh incident of violence, a vehicle of the Directorate of Water Resources, Meghalaya parked outside the office premises was set on fire at Cleve colony in Shillong late last night.

It is suspected that miscreants lobbed a petrol bomb, police said, adding that the vehicle was completely damaged.

This incident has been reported amid several incidents of petrol bomb attacks targeting government vehicles and buildings.
Since April 3 there has been at least 8 incidents of petrol bombs being thrown at government and police vehicles and buildings, the latest one being the petrol bomb thrown near the CRPF camp in Mawlai on Wednesday night.

Speaking about multiple instances of miscreants setting government vehicles on fire, police said that vehicles are being targeted in areas which are not under the surveillance of CCTV cameras.

On May 1, one petrol bomb was hurled at the office of the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation (MGCC) in Shillong and two bombs were hurled at the Shillong Sadar police station and Rynjah police station.

On April 30, two incidents of petrol bomb attacks were reported – one on the Jowai Police Reserve where one vehicle was damaged and the other was reported from the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation office in Shillong. As per CCTV footage, the bomb missed the parked cars by a whisker resulting in zero damage to any property.

On April 26, a petrol bomb was hurled at the residence of Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar. The bomb had landed at Dhar’s balcony. No one was injured in the attack.

On April 24, a petrol bomb was hurled at a police vehicle that was escorting NEEPCO Director (Personnel) Major General (retired) RK Jha in Shillong.

On April 3, a petrol bomb was hurled at the Mawlai Police Station damaging a police vehicle parked in the premises of the Police Station.
