12 companies of Meghalaya Police to assist in polls in Madhya Pradesh

As many as 12 companies of Meghalaya Police have been sent to Madhya Pradesh ahead of Lok Sabha elections, said Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya Dr BDR Tiwari.

When asked if the move will have an impact on the state, which has been rocked by violence since the announcement of the elections, BDR Tiwari stated that the state is comparatively peaceful, therefore he does not think it will have a significant impact.

A total of 40 companies of the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) have been deployed to Meghalaya to assist in the conduct of free and fair Lok Sabha elections in the state tomorrow.

However, the East Khasi Hills district had initially asked for 18 companies of CAPF but is given only 8 companies.

Meghalaya has two Lok Sabha seats– Tura and Shillong which will go to polls tomorrow. The results will be declared on June 4.

NPP leader and the sister of Conrad Sangma Agatha Sangma is contesting from the Tura Parliamentary seat against TMC candidate Zenith Sangma, brother of former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma and Saleng A Sangma of the Congress, and sitting MLA from Gambegre.

Cabinet Minister and a 5-time MLA from the East Shillong Legislative Assembly Constituency, Ampareen Lyngdoh is contesting from the Shillong Parliamentary seat against Congress candidate and incumbent Shillong MP Vincent Pala and an independent candidates- Peter Shallam, an advocate, and Professor Lakhon Kma of Northeast Hill University (NEHU).
