Proposed 24 hour shutdown in Manipur called off

The 24-hour proposed shutdown in valley districts of Manipur today has been called off after an ardent appeal made by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in view of the Higher Secondary exams which began today.

The 24-hour shutdown was called by the women folks yesterday in protest against the arrest of the 6 persons in connection with the arms loot case at Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East.

However, it had exempted the students appearing in the Higher Secondary examination from the bandh.

Hours after the bandh call announcement, CM N Biren Singh made an appeal against holding bandh, blockade or any form of unrest which can hamper the education of the students. He also extended best wishes to the students for their examination.

“I extend my best wishes to all the students appearing for the class 12th exminations amid the ongoing unrest. I appeal to all not to hold any form of one block it which can hamper the education of the students. I urged all to let the students appear for the exam peacefully,” said CM N Biren Singh.

The Higher Secondary examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) has begun today and will conclude on April 20, 2024.
