Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and TMC leader Dr Mukul Sangma today said that the party will announce its candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat by tomorrow or Monday.

Sangma said that the party has already finalised the candidate for Tura seat and talks are on to finalise the candidate for the Shillong seat.

Speaking to media, Sangma said that TMC waited for seat sharing negotiations with INDIA bloc. However, most of the constituent parties in INDIA bloc have decided to go solo in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. There were indications that negotiations were on, but it now looks like they might not result in fruition. Therefore, the only thing we need to decide now is whether to fight both the seats or not.”

“From our side, we have always maintained that we would fight one seat, and let the other one be fought by other parties. Let there be some effort to put that collective endeavour, since we share the common objective of taking on the current dispensation, “ he added.

Mukul Sangma said, “Things would be final in couple of days. we will announce the candidate for Tura seat by tomorrow or latest by Monday.”

The ruling National People’s Party (NPP), which heads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA)-2.0 government, has already announced that sitting MP from Tura Agatha Sangma will re-contest for the seat and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will contest for the Shillong seat.

The opposition Voice of People’s Party (VPP) has announced general secretary Ricky AJ Syngkon’s name for Shillong seat.

The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) comprising the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) have fielded former Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) president Robertjune Kharjahrin for Shillong seat.
