Sources informed that the MHA has submitted a draft to the State government which was handed to ENLU.

The Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union held a closed door meeting with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in Kohima today seeking more time for consultation with Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization and its frontal organizations on the draft proposal of Memorandum of Settlement which was given to the State government.

Highly placed sources informed that Chief Minister Rio was briefed by ENLU on the outcome of yesterday’s meeting with Eastern Nagaland Gazetted Officers Association. CM Rio was also informed of the February 14, emergency consultative meeting convened by Eastern Nagaland Gazetted Officer’s Association (ENGOA) at Dimapur with ENPO Talk Team, ENLU, ENSF, ENWO and the eight apex Tribal presidents.

Rio, also advised ENLU to have proper consultation with ENPO and its frontal organization with utmost transparency and take a decision whether to accept the draft proposal of MoS, sources informed.

“The draft MoS clearly mentions “autonomous”, which is not acceptable to ENLU and ENPO also, since the organizations have clearly stated that it will not accept 6th schedule and autonomous council,” said another well-informed source.

Sources informed that the MHA has submitted a draft to the State government which was handed to ENLU. ENLU had convened a consultative meeting yesterday to particularly discuss on the MHA draft for the proposed Frontier Naga Territory. The said draft has not been shared with ENPO however, in the consultative meeting the ENLU entrusted ENGOA to handover the draft papers to ENPO.

It may be mentioned that in 2011, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly had also recommended for creation of an autonomous council for the Eastern region, however this recommendation was rejected by ENPO.
