Arunachal student allegedly assaulted in FTII, Pune

A student named Mankap Nokwoham was subjected to physical assault on January 23 inside the campus of FTII, Pune by a mob

An incident of physical assault, meted out to a student from Arunachal, has come to fore from the premier Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, Maharashtra.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and well being of Arunachalee students studying outside the state.

The Arunachal Film Collective (AFC), a group of film makers in Arunachal Pradesh has written a letter to Chief Minister Pema Khandu regarding the matter urging him to reach out to the Government of Maharashtra and take proactive measures to create a safe environment for students especially from the northeast studying in other parts of the state.

In the letter, AFC has informed that Mankap Nokwoham a student of FTII in Pune was subjected to physical assault on the 23 of January inside his campus by a mob who had gathered at the institute.

Concerned about the incident the AFC it has urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu to intervene and said, “Incidents of violence against students, especially those hailing from the northeastern states, are not only distressing but also detrimental to the ethos of a harmonious and inclusive India.”

AFC said that it believes that CM Khandu’s swift action will not only serve justice in this specific case but also send a strong message about the commitment of the government to the safety and well-being of students from all regions of our diverse nation.

FTII is among the most sought after film and television institute of the country that boasts of alumni like Naseeruddin Shah, Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Jaya Cachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Shabana Azmi, to name a few.
