President Murmu on two-day visit to Meghalaya from today

On January 16, she will attend a civic reception to be hosted in her honour by the Government of Meghalaya at the Raj Bhavan, Shillong.

President Droupadi Murmu will arrive in Meghalaya today for a two-day visit to the hill state.

The president will inaugurate the 2024 Meghalaya Games in Tura today and visit Shillong tomorrow.

The President will address the members of self-help groups at Baljek Airport, Tura, and virtually lay the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex, Tura, an official statement said.

The President will also address a gathering at Mawphlang and virtually inaugurate upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road as well as lay the foundation stones for the Shillong Peak Ropeway and tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot, and Kudengrim on the same day.

Ahead of her visit East Khasi Hills Police has geared up its security arrangements.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Superintendent of police East Khasi Hills district Sylvester Nongtnger informed that as many as 9 companies of CPF including State police has been deployed. At least 91 officers and 19 Gazetted officers will be deployed during the President’s visit to Shillong.

Asked if any special arrangements have been made in view of the withdrawal of peace talks by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council, he said the police are taking care of the security measures.

President Droupadi Murmu will be in Shillong tomorrow, she will also lay the foundation stone for the Shillong Ropeway project.
