Manipur government forms 3-member committee to investigate oil leak

The committee has been ordered to submit their findings to the governor in 15 days time.

The Manipur Government, under the orders of the Governor, has formed a 3-member committee to investigate the incident of leakage of oil from the Heavy Fuel Power Station at Leimakhong.

The investigation committee consist of Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, Additional Director General of Police as Chairman, Shailesh Kumar Chaurasia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary as a member and M.Pradip Singh, Additional Secretary (Home) as Member Convenor.

The committee is expected to-

  1. Inquire into the cause of the incident including the circumstances leading upto it.
  2. Inquire into the contributing factors that led to the incident.
  3. Inquire into matters that can be considered relevant in the course of inquiry
  4. To suggest immediate and long-term measures for safety and security of the plant.

The committee has been ordered to submit their findings to the governor in 15 days time.

On Thursday, leakage of heavy fuel was reported from Manipur’s Leimakhong Power Station in Imphal West. The leakage led to spillover of the discharge along streams passing through Kantosabal and Sekmai where people in the areas are dependent on the streams for their livelihood.
