Northeast states are stepping up restrictions amid the nationwide Covid surge. Shops and markets in Meghalaya capital Shillong have been directed to close by 8pm while restaurants and eateries will down shutters by 9 pm. There will be a virtual curfew on Sundays with shops asked to remain closed on the day. It may be mentioned that Meghalaya recently reported as many as 4 cases of Omicron.

The government has for the time being has ruled out the possibility of a lockdown in the state as economic activities in the state have suffered a lot during the past two waves of the pandemic.

Amid the spike in cases and the rising OMICRON threat,  the Meghalaya government has urged the people of Meghalaya to vaccinate themselves.

Meghalaya has already asked for mandatory negative RT-PCR test reports in all the entry points of Meghalaya to safeguard the people of the state and keep them safe, healthy, infection-free, and away from transmission.
