Assam Rifles seize foreign cigarettes worth Rs 11.7 lakh in Mizoram

In yet another successful crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered foreign origin cigarettes
In yet another successful crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered foreign origin cigarettes in Chhungte area of Mizoram on Friday.
Based on specific information, a joint team of Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force carried out the operation and seized 9 cases of smuggled foreign origin cigarettes.
Security forces have detained one individual for illegal possession of the foreign cigarettes, which is estimated to be around 11.7 lakhs.
With smuggling of illegal goods prevailing along the India-Myanmar border, it is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram.
