A trooper of the Assam Rifles was killed while two others were injured in an encounter with militants near the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

The martyred jawan has been identified as Rifleman Avatar Chakma.

According to highly-placed sources, the encounter took place at Longvi village under Nampong circle in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

“A column of Assam Rifles was launched to carry out an operation around 9 am. Suddenly, the soldiers came under heavy firing in which the jawan was martyred after receiving bullet injury,” said a police source.

Confirming the incident, Changlang SP Mihin Gambo over phone informed that security forces launched a massive counter-insurgency operation to flush out terrorists from the area.

The operation was underway till the filing of this report.

The two injured have been airlifted and taken to army hospital. The injured jawans are said to be out of danger, as per sources.
