In a dramatic air evacuation, the AIUDF which is a part of the Congress-led alliance in Assam has transferred at least 16 of its 20 candidates who had just contested the state assembly polls to Rajasthan capital, Jaipur. The group had left Guwahati at 10.30 on Friday morning, in Indigo flight number 6E-9397.
Intelligence sources at the Borjhar airport have compiled a list of those who have been taken to Jaipur. The list includes names of at least 16 AIUDF candidates.
Significantly, AICC secretary and Congress sub-in charge for Assam Prithviraj Sathe also boarded the same flight to Jaipur. Reports also say that Assam congress legislator Rockybul Hussain is also in Jaipur.
The AIUDF candidates and leaders are now lodged in Fairmont hotel in Jaipur, with the state Congress taking care of their stay there.
The Rajasthan Congress is hosting the AIUDF candidates and leaders in Rajasthan. The same has been confirmed by Rajasthan Congress Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi. The developments have triggered resort politics in Assam where results to the polls are due on May 2nd.
Considering the Cong leader’s statement, the transfer of candidates has been done as a precautionary measure to thwart any horse trading attempt by the BJP.
Meanwhile, despite the massive development, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is still in denial of things and maintains that he has no say on anyone going somewhere on their own will.
Ajmal, however, strongly indicated that his party won’t allow the BJP to indulge in horse trading this time.
