An important meet on the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution was held in Shillong on Friday.

Union Home Ministry Joint Secretary of Northeast, Satyendra Garg said that the centre will soon finalise the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Talking to newsmen, Garg further said that there has been a consensus on majority of the points on the proposed amendment apart from some minor issues which needs to be resolved.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, PN Syiem said that the issue regarding the demand to increase the number of seats in District council was also raised during the meeting.

He also said there was a demand for inclusion of at least two members of the district council into the state finance commission.
