Meghalaya Home Minister James Sangma has expressed concern over the growing number of arson cases in the state capital Shillong. Sangma, however, asserted that his government will deal with the cases effectively.
He further said that the government is stepping up patrolling to ensure that such kind of incidents comes down. Asked if these where just stray incidences of violence or politically motivated, the Home Minister said that the investigation is on and nothing can be said as of now.
The first attack this month took place when unknown miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a residence at Barapathar in Shillong. One vehicle was partially damaged in the incident. On April 17 miscreants lobbed another petrol bomb at the residence of eminent journalist Patrica Mukhim.
The West Shillong constituency which has witnessed several cases of arson of late forcing the local MLA to write to the Home Minister.
The Meghalaya home minister speaking out against cases of arson stated that his government is committed to deal with the situation.
