Assam Handloom and textile department officials along with the police seized a huge quantity of gamucha’s at Amingaon in Guwahati that was imported from outside Assam and was supposed to be dispatched to the other parts of the state in view of the Rongali Bihu festivities.

The consignment was seized from the Railway market in Amingaon. Earlier, handloom and textile minister of Assam Ranjit Dutta had said that strong action will be taken against those vendors selling Gamochas brought from outside Assam.

Even Deputy Commissioners of each district to take action in this regard. The move was made by the state government to boost the indigenous weaving industry.
