The Army is planning to go out against insurgent groups operating along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, including the Indo-Myanmar border areas.

The development comes after General Commanding officer of Spear Corps, Lt General Gopal R reviewed the security situation in Eastern Assam and South Arunachal Pradesh along with the Indo-Myanmar border. According to reports, Army is all set to intensify anti-insurgency operations along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

On January 16, NSCN-IM militants set on fire 9 oil tankers in Assam’s Tinisukia district. The attack took place near the Namphai Reserve Forest along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh.

In another incident, at least one army personnel was injured and two army vehicles were damaged when militants of CorCom and Paresh Baruah-led ULFA-I ambushed an army convoy of 11 Grenadier Regiment in the area between Nongtau Khamti and Piyong under Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh along the state’s border with Assam. Meanwhile, earlier this week a surrendered militant of the Bodo insurgent group of Assam, NDFB revealed that a joint group of around 200 militants including the ULFA-I and NSCN-K are looking for an opportunity to sneak into Assam to carry out terrorist activities.
