While floods in Guwahati leaves people homeless, Min Ashok Singhal says situation way better then earlier

At a time when residents of several areas of Guwahati are struggling to deal with the current flood situation triggered by the heavy downpour that has completely submerged parts of the city up to their necks in water, cut off communication and forced people to leave their homes, Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal, said that the current flood situation in the city is significantly better than it was previously.

Minister Singhal said, “In comparison to past years, the issue of artificial flooding has significantly improved in Guwahati. Yes, there are waterlogging in many areas, but it is draining quickly; unlike earlier. Moreover, areas such as Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar are the most flood prone areas in the city.

Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha MP from Guwahati, Queen Oja was seen lifting her saree and walking through the water logged streets of Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar. 

The MP who has served as Mayor of Guwahati said that they would try to find a solution to the water logging problem of Guwahati and she would take the matter up with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

” Residents of Guwahati are like my family members and I would not like to see them struggling this way in floods. I am very distressed as I am not being able to help them, but I will take the matter up with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to a find a solution,” said Queen Oja. 

After a few hours of rainfall, Guwahati is grappling with artificial floods, throwing life completely out of gear. 

Several areas across the city have been inundated, and people are moving towards safer places. Some of the worst affected places of the city are Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Rukminigaon, Ulubari, Rajgarh and Zoo Road.

Rescue teams have been set in action by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for rescuing the people stranded in the flooded areas.

Meanwhile, schools and colleges have also been shut in the wake of the alarming flood situation in the city. Several exams have been cancelled as well.

Owing to the worsening situation in Guwahati, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has issued a helpline number for any assistance in wake of waterlogging or other issues.
