The service uses facial recognition technology to save data and automatically process passengers’ information at checkpoints including – entry point check, security check and aircraft boarding.

What is Digi Yatra?

Digi Yatra is a new facial recognition boarding service introduced by the government at major airports. The technology will help in initiating paperless processing of passengers at airport checkpoints and along with self-bag drop and check-in service and facial recognition to identify pax and data recall. So, now passengers travelling by air will not have to carry their ID card and boarding pass for the boarding process.

Where is Digi Yatra service available?

The aviation ministry is launching the paper-less travel system in phases for domestic flight passengers. For the first phase, the service has been launched at seven airports. Starting today, the service is available at three airports — Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi. By March 2023, Digi Yatra will be live in four more airports, including – Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada. Subsequently, the government will rollout the technology across the country.

What are the benefits of DigiYatra?

With the elimination of ID checks at check-in, passengers will be experiencing faster movement to boarding gates.

The system will be contactless and paperless, providing hassle free experience during travel.

Passengers will not need to carry ID or boarding pass at every checkpoint.

Airport check-in time will be reduced.

The app will be tracking the air passenger with the PNR, enhancing the security.

This will also reduce frauds and only legitimate passengers will be allowed to board the plane.

How to enroll for Digi Yatra?

Air passengers can create their Digi Yatra ID by providing following information: Name, 2. Email ID, 3. Mobile Number, 4. Details of Identity (Voter ID, Driving License, Aadhar etc).

After submitting the documents your Digi Yatra ID will be created.

You will be able to use your Digi Yatra ID number to book the flight ticket. Your data including Digi Yatra ID will be passed on to the departure airport by the airlines.

Notably, on first travel, the air travellers have to go to the registration kiosk at the airport to validate ID.

In case you submit Aadhaar details, the verification will be online as Aadhaar cards already have biometric information. But if you share another ID, CISF will manually verify.

After the successful verification, the photo of pax will be added to Digi Yatra profile in the central system.

How to use Digi Yatra ID during boarding facility

After the verification of Digi Yatra ID, enter the e-gate at the airport dedicated for boarding of passengers with Digi Yatra ID.

Now share and scan the bar-coded Boarding Pass For Mobile Boarding Pass.

After scanning, verify your identity at the Face Recognition System (FRS) installed e-gate camera.

After the successful validation, the e-gate will open and you will be able to enter the airport.

After entering the terminal, drop your luggage at the check-in desk and then proceed towards the DigiYatra Gate.

You will have to again verify the identity via the Face Recognition System (FRS) installed e-gate camera.

After successful validation, the e-gate will open to allow you in for security check.
