In a major clampdown on Marijuana cultivation, troopers of Tripura State Rifles along with Tripura police destroyed thousands of marijuana plants on Saturday in the bordering Kalanchora area in Sepahijala district of the State. During the joint operation, over 30,000 marijuana plants were destroyed.

Bishnu Pada Bhowmik, officer-in-charge of the Kalamchoura police station, who led the operation, said that the estimated market price of the destroyed marijuana is worth Rs 40 lakh.

It is worth mentioning here that under the State government’s ‘Nasha Mukt Tripura Abhiyan’, several operations against smuggling of drugs, contraband, illegal cultivation of marijuana have been launched to make Tripura a drug-free state.
