Continuing its crusade against illegal drugs trade in the state, the Assam police has recovered over 2.5 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs 17 crore on Thursday.
The heroin concealed in 205 soap cases was recovered from a truck in Jorabat near Guwahati. The consignment was hidden inside the oil tank of the truck.
Police intercepted the truck after receiving specific inputs. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
“Big Success in #WarOnDrugs ! Based on an intelligence input, EGPD today apprehended a truck at Jorabat & recovered 205 soap cases of Heroin (approximately 2.5kgs worth Rs 17.5 crores) from inside the oil tank,” tweeted Guwahati Police.
The arrested have been identified as Dipak Sarma and Jamminlal hailing from Nagaland and Manipur respectively.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case and are further probing the matter.
