Violence spreads to West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya; miscreants set 4 shops on fire

The violence in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya has now spread to its adjoining areas. Unknown miscreants has set ablaze at least 4 shops in Photkroh Bazaar, around 60 km from Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills.
However, the police has maintained that the situation in under control and is being closely monitored.
Earlier, curfew was clamped in additional parts of Shillong by the East Jaintia Hills district administration over apprehensions that law and order may deteriorate further.
Curfew was clamped on Sunday evening in the municipal and cantonment areas, including all areas under Mawlai and Mawpat Blocks under Census Towns and several nearby areas in Mylliem Block under Umshyrpi Bridge up to 7th Mile in Upper Shillong.
The curfew was imposed from 9 pm in the night and continued till 6 am in the morning today.
Prohibitory orders were also clamped in areas falling under Lumdiengjri and Sadar police station since yesterday morning at 8 am. However, the orders were lifted this morning at 6 am.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the series of violent clashes has mounted to 3; while 10 others were severely injured. 8 persons were arrested by the Meghalaya police for their alleged involvement in the horrific act of violence.
It may be mentioned that a horrific clash broke out in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district between Khasi Students’ Union activists and another group during a meeting held by KSU on the citizenship amendment act and Inner line permit.
