Reacting to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s recent bizarre statement on Naga headgear’s, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal tweeted that PM Modi dons the traditional dresses and headgear of the ethnic communities with immense pride and affection.
He said Modi also drapes the gamosa with much respect. Sonwal, however, lamented the fact that the leaders of the Congress party find the dress of the ethnic communities of the Northeast ‘outlandish’.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also tweeted stating that he is appalled at the gross insensitivity shown by a seasoned political leader of such stature. He stated that the headgears were presented to the tribal leaders and kings as a mark of honour. He also demands an unconditional apology from Tharoor.
Assam minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted over the issue and demanded Congress party chief Rahul Gandhi’s apology for his party member’s comment.
Also, Nagaland chief minister took to Twitter and launched a scathing attack on Shashi Tharoor demanding an apology and withdrawal of his comment.
Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Acharya criticise Shashi Tharoor’s Outlandish Headgear comment. He said that such comments on the cultural identities of a particular community is not acceptable and demanded an apology from the Congress MP for the same.
Peter Rutsa,BJP Vice-President of Nagaland invited Shashi Tharoor to visit Nagaland and see for himself the tradition and culture of the community.
Mr. Rutsa further said that the Congress MP is jealous of the success that BJP is having in the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked Shashi Tharoor not to create animosity in Nagaland and the Northeast.
Meanwhile, BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav reacted on Shashi Tharoor’s remark and said that the statement is condemnable and shocking. He added that Tharoor should learn to respect all customs.
