Dr Sanjay Upreti who was attacked in the Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital yesterday and now battling for life has been airlifted to Siliguri for advanced treatment.

The decision came after Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang held an emergency cabinet meeting this morning to discuss the medical condition of Dr. Sanjay Upreti.

As per reports, the condition of Dr. Sanjay Upreti and Kalawati Chetri continues to be critical, and both have been kept on ventilator support. Dr. Sanjay Upreti’s surgery lasted till 10 pm on Tuesday.

In a shocking revelation the 42-year-old accused Tshering Bhutia who was nabbed by the police has claimed that he attacked the lady Kalawati Chetri because she did not answer his phone calls and when he came to take her along with him, she refused.

Following this, Bhutia said he attacked her with a knife.

Dr. Sanjay Upreti, who tried to intervene, was also attacked by Bhutia.

The police have also registered a case against the accused Tshering Bhutia under Sections 307, 326 and 353 of the IPC and the accused will be produced in court today.
