Union Minister Piyush Goyal suggested the industry set a target of exporting organic products worth USD 1 billion by 2030 from existing USD 1 million organic produce in Sikkim
Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Friday suggested the industry set a target of exporting organic products worth USD 1 billion by 2030 from existing USD 1 million organic produce in Sikkim, an official release said.
He said this while addressing an interaction programme with Sikkim Chamber of Commerce and Industry representatives organised by FICCI at Gangtok.
In the statement, Goyal also suggested organic, sustainable, and clean renewable energy. He suggested a lab for organic testing in the State- farm to lab – traceability check. He also insisted to use existing infrastructure for upscaling economic activities.
Further, he said to have the potential of the state to become sustainable and organic state.
He apprised that such achievements will give more value and leverage to boost tourism in the State. He stressed local youth to work on design and packaging facilities as well.
He also informed that the Centre is ready to set up the National Institute of Design and National Institute of Packaging Campus in Sikkim if lands are provided by the state government.
Union minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food, and public distribution and textiles, Piyush Goyal arrived in Sikkim on February 17 and he is on a three-day visit.
