Union Home Minister Amit Shah was accorded a grand welcome upon his arrival at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati on Friday night. A cultural extravaganza was on display
Union Home Minister Amit Shah was accorded a grand welcome upon his arrival at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati on Friday night.
A cultural extravaganza was on display at the airport and along the highway near Borjhar as close to 3,000 artistes performed to greet and welcome Shah. Hundreds of BJP workers and supporters also landed at the airport to welcome Shah amid tight security arrangements.
Around 10,000 earthen lamps were lit from Borjhar along the national highway to welcome Shah.
Shah tweeted “Reached Guwahati! I wholeheartedly thank the people of Assam for such a warm welcome.” along with snaps of the welcoming committee of folk artists.
Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state president Ranjeet Dass, Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das and Assam minister of state for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika besides other top leaders received Shah at the airport.
Shah, who is on a three-day visit to the North East, will lay foundation stones of a number of ambitious projects from Amingaon today, including one for the development of the Batadrava Than at Bardowa.
Shah will also lay the foundation stones of 10 law colleges located at different places in the State. The Union Home Minister will also distribute a financial grant of Rs 2.5 lakh to 8,000 naamghars in the State under the Assam Darshan programme.
Later in the evening, Shah is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and discuss law and order issues. Amit Shah will also meet various NDA partners, including Assam’s regional political party Asom Gana Parishad. The 23-member Boro Council led by UPPL president Pramod Boro will also meet Shah.
The Union Home Minister will preside over the Assam BJP core committee and will take stock of party’s poll preparedness ahead of assembly polls in the state.
