Just days after the crucial Meghalaya Democratic Alliance meet to discuss the possibility of fielding common candidates for the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats, the UDP, an alliance partner in the NPP-led coalition has gone ahead to propose the name of party MLA Jeminoh Mawthoh as the MDA common candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

Informing this in Shillong yesterday, UDP vice president Allantry Dkhar said that after thorough deliberation the state election committee of the party has decided to propose Nongthymmai MLA Jeminoh Mawthoh as the common candidate for the MDA coalition in Shillong.

Mawthoh’s name will be put forward to the MDA coalition for its consideration. Meanwhile, Mawthoh said that the decision is just that of the party and it is to be seen now whether the MDA coalition goes ahead with the proposal.

It may be mentioned here that UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh and party MLA Jeminoh Mawthoh were the two probable candidates from the party.

BJP Legislator Party leader AL Hek said that he personally feels that the BJP should field its own candidates in both Shillong and Tura in the Lok Sabha polls. He, however, said that the final decision lies with the central leadership.
