Indian Express came up with this year’s list of 100 most powerful Indians. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah continues to dominate the top two spots, the third spot added a new name this year. RSS Chief, Mohan Bhagwat had been on number three since 2015, this year however, Chief Justice Dipak Misra’s name figured in the third spot followed by Mohan Bhagwat and 96 others.

Interestingly, the 27th spot had NEDA convener Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s name. Following every person’s name, Indian Express enlists reasons as to why the person is on the list. Similarly for Himanta Biswa Sarma, they wrote, “As convenor of the BJP’s North East Democratic Alliance, he has chosen his allies well, helping deliver state after state for the party.”

The recent win over CPI(M) during the Tripura elections, ousting the left party from its last held citadel and stitching up post-poll alliances in Nagaland and Meghalaya, Sarma had been instrumental in expanding BJP’s footprints in the Northeastearn region.

With another name on the top 100 list from the region, Justice Ranjan Gogoi’s name got figured in the 45th spot. About the 63 year old Supreme Court Justice’s reasons on joining the list, Indian Express wrote, “One of the four judges of the apex court who held an unprecedented press conference to take on Chief Justice Dipak Misra.”
