Two Assam men arrested for ATM fraud in Meghalaya

Police recovered 44 HDFC Bank ATM Cards, one IPPB ATM Card, one SBI ATM card, two mobile phones and Rs 10,290 in cash

Meghalaya Police have arrested 2 persons in connection with ATM fraud case and recovered 46 ATM cards.

On recieving information about a person repeatedly using a ATM machine with multiple ATM cards in West Garo Hills, a team from Phulbari Police Station was deployed, which subsequently arrested the person.

The arrested person has been identified as- Lotiful Islam of Tumni, South Salmara, Assam.

Police recovered 44 HDFC Bank ATM Cards, one IPPB ATM Card, one SBI ATM card, 44 open HDFC ATM envelopes, one SBI Pass Book, one IPPB Pass Book, two mobile phones, Rs 10,290 in cash and a Scooty from his possession.

After further investigation, it was found that Lotiful works for one named Ashraful Islam, Assistant Branch Post Master of Tumni Post Office, South Salamara, Assam.

Later, Ashraful Islam appeared at Phulbari Police Station and stated that he was doing the job of Assistant Branch Post Master but illegally deputed his work to Lotiful.

It is suspected that they illegally opened the ATM card envelopes of the customers and withdrew money using the PIN.
