Tripura Shockers: College Student Forced to Marry, Woman Stripped, Ragging in Tripura Medical College, THRC Seeks Report From DGP in 3 Weeks

Tripura has reported three shocking incidents over the past few days. A college student from West Tripura district was forced allegedly by local leaders to marry against her wish, in another shocker, a woman was stripped and her photos were circulated in social media, and in the third incident seniors of Tripura Medical College ragged juniors.
Taking suo moto cognizance of all the above mentioned incidents based on media reports, the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has directed state DGP to provide comprehensive reports on each incident within three weeks.
In an order issued on October 30, the Commission stated, “The Commission thought it appropriate to take cognizance of the incident and directs the DGP, Tripura, to immediately inquire into the allegations and to submit a report to the Commission within 3 (three) weeks.”
In the ragging incident the THRC has directed the principal also to submit a detailed report within three weeks. Additionally, the Commission ordered an independent inquiry by the district magistrate and the superintendent of police of West Tripura district.
“Ragging is not only a criminal offence but it also violates the human rights of the ragged students. It calls for immediate action in terms of the Tripura Educational Institutions (Prevention of Ragging) Act, 1990,” the THRC emphasized in its order.
Regarding the alleged stripping incident the THRC highlighted that such an act would deeply disturb any member of a civilized society, condemning the incident as a severe violation of human rights.
In the local leaders forcing a college student to marry a youth against her will incident, the Commission strongly criticized this interference, stressing that such actions violated the personal freedoms of adults.
